On the Importance of Detail Work

I was brought onto a project to create deferred revenue reconciliations, which the client hadn’t created before. I went through all the data since the client’s 2013 NetSuite implementation to pull the correct sales order number for each transaction via reports from NetSuite Invoice to Sales Order, Credit Memo to Sales Order, Revenue Commitment Reversal to Sales Order and Return Authorization to Sales Order. I also went through all the 606 conversion backup files to find correct sales order numbers.

Once the transactions had the related sales order numbers, I created a pivot table to show if the sales order had been fully invoiced or amortized or even show the current balance per sales order or customer. Going forward, the client will be able to add on the new monthly data to reconcile the deferred revenue accounts in subsequent months. These reconciliations will help easily track the client’s deferred revenue by customer and sales order, and they will be able to drill down for more detail on a particular customer or sales order.
