When I was deployed as the Client’s Interim Controller, they had been operating for less than 10 months, yet the business was fairly complex for an inception year. They had completed an acquisition, implemented an equity incentive plan and were transitioning between ERP systems. Additionally, the demands of a rapidly growing business were a strain on every department’s infrastructure.
I was able to lead the current accounting team in producing monthly financials, and we closed out the 2020 financials while adopting ASC 606 revenue recognition, early-adopting ASC 842 leases, completing the purchase price accounting and drafting the footnotes. We issued the audit report by mid-year, which allowed the Client to pivot to securing financing.
Concurrently, I successfully documented and improved key processes, produced fundamental control documents to facilitate a timely close and began building out the accounting team—all of which ensured a seamless transition to the permanent Controller.
