On Saturday June 18th, 8020 Consulting volunteers gathered at the LA Food Bank’s warehouse in Vernon, California, to support their mission to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community.
The LA Food Bank has provided in excess of 1 billion pounds of food to the hungry in Los Angeles county since its inception in 1973. Each month, the Food Bank distributes food packages to 320,000 people and relies on the support from volunteers to accomplish this effort.
On an average Saturday, over 200 volunteers gather in Vernon to package backpacks of food for school children, or crates of food for seniors and others in need. A group this size generally is able to assemble about 2,500-3,000 crates. Nonetheless, on June 18th 8020 Consulting combined with 2 other companies in a group of about 125 assembled 4,300 30-pound crates filled with cereal, juice, vegetables, chicken and beef, milk, beans and peanut butter. While this required hard work, the 8020 Consulting team left feeling energized yet more aware of the realities of hunger in our local community, learning that 1 in 6 Los Angeles residents are unsure of where they will receive their next meal.
“I went home with a full heart. While this was truly hard work, it was worth it knowing that our efforts fed thousands of people who may have otherwise not had a meal. I was moved by how my colleagues came together to hustle to get as many crates assembled as possible,” comments Erin Youel, 8020 Consulting’s Talent Acquisition Manager.
