My last engagement involved helping an e-commerce client flesh out their financial model to gauge near-term capital raising needs as a result of rapid growth since their summer 2020 launch.
The main parts of the financial model discussed with the CFO were revenues and marketing spend, given their significant impact on cash flow forecasts. We worked through the main options for each and included both to get executive team feedback.
Once an approach was decided for each part, we then fleshed out more of the model’s components, including cash flow statement and balance sheet forecasts, more detailed headcount/payroll costs and, finally, refined key cost-to-serve components.
The client and I were glad to see that a lot of progress was made on the model in a short time, especially as cash funding is needed soon.
